DIY Fabric Tutu

I Love anything girly and so does my little girl so when i seen a fabric tutu awhile back i knew i had to make one! It was quite easy and no sewing machine required! and here is the simple steps to make one yourself!

You will need
1/2 elastic
 needle & thread
 scissors
measuring tape
fabric..
(as many different colors as you'd like, i used
the quilters fabric squares and used 4 of them)

First i measured my daughters waist it was 18 1/2 inches

Then I cut the elastic about 2 inches smaller than her waist (so it will stay on their waist)
 so 16 1/2 inches

Then i sewed the 2 ends of the elastic together..

Then folded the ends back and sewed each side to the main piece..this will
insure it won't come loose.

Then i cut my fabric..
into strips around 1 1/2 inches thick by 22 inches long..
(you can do any width you'd like between 1-2 inches and any length between 18-22 in long.)
Don't worry about cutting exactly straight or perfect as it adds to the character of the tutu.

Next I ironed my fabric pieces, (the fabric i used came folded so i had to get the creases out) but no need to iron if your fabric is flat.

The next step was tying the fabric strips to the elastic waist band. To do this I folded the strips in half and pulled the cut ends through the center of the waist band.

I then folded the ends back over top of the waist band and pulled them through the loop at the center of the fabric scrap. I pulled firmly to tighten the fabric around the waist band.

Then i repeated that step a few dozen times using different colors all the way around...

and here is the finished product!
From there i did make a fabric Rosette to add to the skirt as seen below.

 And there you go!
It's fun to wear out or play dress up in!
Enjoy!

~ Learning to Be the Light ~

When the stars came crashing down
In tiny pieces to the ground
I was all alone down here
Trapped beneath the atmosphere
Then I thought somebody called my name
I spun around and caught a flame
I gave in to a God I didn't know
And now everything is falling into place
A brand new life is calling and I owe it all to grace

(Chorus)
It's so much brighter living in Your world
Savior, what you did for me
You gave me something I want everyone to see
When we struggle and it all goes wrong
Only You can make it right
So I say
Oh I'm learning to be the light
I'm learning to be the light

When a heart is cold as ice
You can't melt it with advice
No one wants to listen to
A list of things they shouldn't do
So I build a city on a hill
And I light a candle on a sill
Knowing You'll be always knocking at the door
Oh God I just want to love on everyone
All I have is Yours to give so let the people come

Chorus

I'm learning to be the light
That makes the shadows hide
I'm learning to be the light
The light that breaks the curse of pride
I'm learning to be the light
he light that takes the weary in it's arms

When it all came crashing down
There was only darkness all around
But in the distance I could see
A Flame

Listen to the song here...

I love this song and the inspiring words!
And it seems very fitting with what we have been studying these past weeks in 1 Peter.

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord, Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
1 Peter 3:15

"Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life" (Phil 2:14-16)

~Peter urged people to live with such integrity and consistency that those who are against us will eventually respect us and be led to glorify God!

We are all Blessed more than we will ever know, and we should help lead the lost to the Creator of all our Blessings ~ I Pray that God will help me to learn how he wants me to be a light in this world.

Wow! Now that was an awesome movie!
I'm sure alot of you rushed out to the theaters to watch this when it came out a few months ago, but with having small children (and a baby) we don't usally get to watch movies until they make it to dvd.

The 'Resolution' above is the pledge the 5 Fathers took, but is a good reminder to us all!
If you haven't seen this movie, and are looking for an inspirational movie on Honoring your spouse children and God most of all, then rent this movie ;)

Heat Wave..

Heat Wave..well sorta LoL! After being well into the negative degrees at night and only reaching single digits for a high; Today felt warm! Even if it was only 35 degrees =)
After many days of asking to go outside and play, i was able to say 'yes' and know they
wouldn't freeze...

It's pretty comical to watch them try to both get into the sled before it takes off..

Check out that face! haha

But they have fun! Thats all that matters..right?
